After designing a personal logotype for early business cards and website design, I set myself a self-initiated project and brief. The aim was to craft a full typeface and character set in the same manner using grids and geometric shapes. I began to sketch through ideas and develop character patterns in order to shape a fully functional typeface. Shown here are the initial rough sketches.
The brief had many different challenges imposed on it. I set out to experiment with my options in order to create solutions that fit the main aims and goals of the project. Uppercase variants posed different problems in using the same grid and system that I would try and use for lowercase, numbers and special characters.
The designs are then scanned in and cleaned up via computer software. Guides and grids are laid out to make the process easier to complete. Illustrator is first used before moving the completed characters into FontLab Studios where they are then finalised and completed.
The typeface is available in four different weights and two stylistic options. Shown here is one of stylistic options ‘Infoka CXX’ and ‘Infoka XX’ the shapes used vary slightly for the stylistic options in which certain characters take new character forms.
